well fine then stupid textarea, don't take out the brs
Character Name: Asch (which is actually his birth name now) (saves us all headaches)
Character Original Canon: Tales of the Abyss
Character Description: Not-quite-eighteen, slightly on the short side for a dude, muscular without being built. Red hair to his waist, actually natural but frequently mistaken for dyed on account of how it actually is red, not orangey-carrot-top. Green eyes, perpetually grumpy expression. Dresses like he actually does come from the wrong side of the tracks most of the time, but cleans up nice; never shows any skin below the neck in public.
His primary power is sound manipulation, which is how he makes his living right now (such as it is) - there's a couple of magically-friendly bars and the like that call him in to make bands sound good in their crappy acoustics. He's got a bit of skill with magic (all of his spells have a vocal component, both due to his natural inclination and the way he was taught), and a lot of skill at fighting, both unarmed (although with no particular style that might suggest martial arts training) and fencing (he took lessons for years). He's acrobatic enough for a form of parkour, which is his usual method of transportation these days. He also has a psychic connection to his twin who lives on the other side of the city and is reasonably sensitive to telepathy, even if he can't use it himself.
Character AU History: The elder of a pair of twins born to a rich family on the far side of the city. Asch and his brother, Luke, weren't very old when it became apparent that they had some kind of connection, the sort of mental bond between identical twins that you always hear rumours about. Unfortunately, it's not that easy to just share a brain with someone all the time, especially when it's someone you dislike as deeply as Asch dislikes his brother. The two never got along, and their fights were prone to escalating in strange ways, their arguing voices heard throughout the house even when they shouldn't have been.
When Asch was ten years old, their fencing instructor, Van, offered to allow the boy to move in with him, at least for long enough to give the boys (and their parents) some peace of mind. Initially, their parents refused. Asch took matters into his own hands, and struck out with a few of his things one late summer evening. Luckily, he managed to make it to Van's without too much incident, and once he was there, his parents did grudgingly allow him to stay. Asch relished the chance to be away from his brother and alone in his head for the first time in his life (their bond weakening with distance between them), and absolutely adored Van for letting him stay.
Too bad it wasn't all good. The seven years or so between then and now showed a much darker side of Van; while the man did train Asch in controlling his audiokinetic abilities, as well as passing lessons in magic and the continuation of their fencing lessons, the redhead was also kept emotionally isolated by his instructor to the point of indoctrination. Van was his home and family and everything (and we know how that tends to wind up), at least up until a few months ago.
That was when a chance encounter with Luke (on a purely mental level) kind of kicked him in the ass; the two mostly yelled at each other, but Luke also begged Asch to come home, because everyone in their family missed him dearly. It was enough of a break from what Van had been feeding him that Asch confronted his teacher. The two of them fought in turn (or rather, Asch screamed at Van a lot), until Asch stomped off to his room.
He grabbed a few clothes and bolted that night, and hasn't been in contact with either Van or his family since then. For the first week or so he crashed wherever he could, but he currently has a (tiny) room in the attic of one of the places he works sound systems for.

Character Name: Ammond Raidie
Character Original Canon: Homestuck (fantroll)
Character Description: Ammond is, for the purposes of this AU, species-swapped to human; she's a tall eighteen-year-old Latina, with very short black hair and hazel eyes. Usually favors simple clothes with a mild punk aesthetic, and has multiple piercings. Rides a stupidly souped-up motorcycle and, since graduating from high school a few months ago, works full-time in her uncle's autoshop.
She uses a formulaic, ritualized form of magic that she's synthesized from a variety of influences, one part a decidedly nontheist take on a variety of world religions, one part medieval alchemy by way of high school chemistry, and two parts superstition and folk magic. Some of her spells are perfectly safe and even an improvement on the source material. Others are decidedly not.
She's kind of a smug little snot.
Character AU History: Growing up, Ammond's family was generally stable but not particularly prosperous. They lived in a neighborhood which had been much more affluent a generation or two back, with a wide cross section of the extended family living within walking distance. Ammond was an only child but grew up surrounded by cousins, often supervised by her paternal grandmother while the various other adults in the family were at work.
Ammond's grandmother had some skill and training in folk magic - not enough or with the proper background to ever consider herself a proper magic user, but more than most people. Ammond, along with a couple of her cousins, showed an aptitude for the basic fortune-telling and warding types of spells they were allowed to try as children. Ammond's cousins had no great lasting interest in the craft. On the other hand, by the time she was in her teens, Ammond had begun experimenting, picking up new tricks from just about any source she could get access to, applying them to what she already knew, and just generally mixing and matching different schools of magic to see what worked.
The resulting system relies heavily on astrological timing and on material components, although not always the same timing and components as tradition dictates. Its development has gotten her banned from or shunned by multiple magical groups within the past few years, as her playing fast and loose with the accepted forms of magic tends to rub some people the wrong way. She's also not exactly welcome at her parents' parish anymore, but she's less concerned about that - she was never particularly religious, and she's perfectly aware that most mainstream religions keep their more interesting magic far out of reach of the laypeople.
Since graduating from high school last spring, Ammond has been working full-time at an autoshop owned by one of her uncles. She lives in a studio apartment a few blocks from where she grew up, from which various family members still attempt to drag her home for home-cooked meals several times a week.
/sneaks in here...
Character Name: Sheba (she totally has a last name but she's never giving it out to anyone because it's a ~secret~)
Character Original Canon: Golden Sun
Character Description: On the verge of turning sixteen (or newly sixteen - I headcanon her birthday as being in early October, sooo), Sheba is a little short for her age. Her hair is blonde and cut into an asymmetrical bob; her eyes are a bright green. She has a lot of clothing that is very high-end, but she has a tendency to favor oversized hoodies, denim shorts, and knee-high boots for her day-to-day outfits, much to her caretaker's chagrin.
She is a mind reader, though she can't quite control it just yet. Some days she has better control over it than others. She is also electro- and aerokinetic, with a moderate amount of control over wind and lightning, but she's only recently started to experiment with this and does her best to keep it under wraps. Her powers have a tendency to spiral out of control when she loses her mental focus, though; for that reason, she tries very hard to keep herself calm. (Spoilers: It usually doesn't work.)
Put a bludgeoning object into her hands and she'll be just fine. Staff or mace or anything else, if you can swing it and bash something with it, she can figure out what to do with it.
Character AU History: She isn't originally from the city, but she's been here for the past seven years; city natives likely won't recognize her, though, because her caretaker - a wealthy man and a prominent figure in the city's politics - has (up until very recently) kept her very close to home. She was brought to the city to live in his manor shortly before her ninth birthday, and though Sheba didn't understand why, it was because he'd heard rumors of a young girl with tremendous potential who could read minds and was living with the mayor a few cities over. Some would call it a kidnapping; her caretaker would call it a "liberation," as he has done his best to help her develop her powers (though, admittedly, he mostly wants this done for his own benefit - so that she can use them to help him).
Over the past seven years, Sheba's frustration with her situation has caused her to do quite a few highly questionable things. It used to be that she was so upset with what was being expected of her - that she develop her mind reading and use it to help her caretaker advance in the political field - that she purposely clamped down on it and tried to suppress it. This led to her losing control over her ability; it's harder for her to do it on command now. Sometimes a stray thought or two from someone else will drift into her mind; other times, the thoughts from everyone within a ten-mile radius will swarm her and she'll be entirely incapacitated. The worst instance of this occurred when she was thirteen years old, and left her unconscious for a week and a half.
It was when she was fourteen years old that she discovered she had power over the wind; a fit of pique a few months later caused her to discover that she could summon lightning when she was particularly upset. After the treatment she suffered in regards to her mind reading, she did her best to keep this a secret from her caretaker; because of this, she hasn't experimented much with these powers and, even almost two years later, can't do a whole lot with them - but she does have the potential to learn very quickly once she starts actually trying.
She doesn't know where she came from her who her real family is; the man she was living with before being brought to this city found her and raised her as his own. The way she didn't know things about herself, when she could so easily find things out about everyone else, has eaten away at her since she was young; it's only recently, now that she's gotten a little more experience with her powers and has gotten better at sneaking around, that she's begun to sneak out of her caretaker's manor and into the city itself. She has decided that she is going to find out who she really is no matter what it takes, and if that means putting herself in danger from time to time - so be it.

Character Name: Dark Pit ("Cody")
Character Original Canon: Kid Icarus: Uprising
Character Description: Appears around 18, is actually only a few years old. He's shortish for a guy, but muscular while still being thin. He's got short black hair, and brownish-red eyes.
He's the result of one of Pit's family's rivals, named Pandora, trying to create a magical copy of Pit. It didn't work so well. He's got magic spells and also has wings he can make appear or disappear. He's also got a variety of weapons he can summon, and he's super athletic.
Also has a "super secret twin connection" to Pit, but neither of them are telling anyone what that is.
Character AU History: Pit was born into a family with a hint of divine blood. Everything was fine and dandy, and most of the family was peaceful, despite having rivals. Usually they didn't cause too much trouble, but it was clear that Pit was taking well to his training and spells.
One of the family's rivals, nicknamed Pandora, decided to try and make a copy of Pit using dark magic. If she could copy at least his appearance, perhaps she could train the copy with his skills. She prepared the ritual, made her contracts, and -
- the copy decided to make her cut that shit out before her ritual was done. It busted out of her mansion and made its way to Pit's family home, not knowing what was going on, only that it was being pulled.
Pit found the copy behind his house, and took him in. The copy explained what had happened, and when asked if he had a name, shook his head. Pit thought for a while. "Copy... copy... copy... Cody?"
It was a name, at least. 'Cody' was taken in and taught how to use his abilities. He caught on quickly, being linked with Pit, and was treated more or less like one of the family - on the surface. Only Pit didn't keep him at a distance, and so when Pit suddenly disappeared, 'Cody' was the one who went out to find him.
